HOW TO APPLY FOR A SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER

You probably already know how useful a real social security number is.  Once it is assigned to you, it remains a validly issued number, meaning you never have to worry about "fake numbers" ever again.

If you are applying under DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) (the new immigration policy that is helping the "DREAMers"), here is a step-by-step guide to getting your social security number.

CÓMO SOLICITAR UN NÚMERO DE SEGURO SOCIAL

Usted probablemente ya sabe lo útil que un número real seguridad social. Una vez que se le ha asignado, sigue siendo un número válidamente emitidos, lo que significa que nunca tendrá que preocuparse acerca de "números falsos" nunca más.

Si presenta su solicitud DACA (Acción Diferida para llegadas Infancia) (la nueva política de inmigración que está ayudando a los "Soñadores"), aquí es una guía paso a paso para obtener su número de seguro social.
  1. Get your deferred action application and work permit approved. (You would be wise to use a lawyer to help you.)
  2. Find your local social security office by clicking here.
  3. Complete Form SS-5 (you can download it here.)
  4. Collect the following documents to your local Social Security Office and file your packet with them:
  • DACA Work permit
  • Completed Form SS-5
  • Certified copy of birth certificate (in original language)
  • Certified translation of birth certificate (in English)

You should receive your own social security card within two to three weeks.

Be VERY careful in filling out the SS-5, as it is a government form and any mistake you make on it can be used against you.  If you are unsure of what to do, we are happy to assist you and can help you get your work permit, deferred action, and social security number.

  1. Consigue su solicitud acción diferida y el permiso de trabajo aprobado. (Usted sería sabio utilizar un abogado para que le ayude.)
