CIVIL PRACTICE AND CIVILITY
Besides the image of the storied Perry Mason-type defense lawyer, valiantly defending his always-innocent client, perhaps the other classical portrayal of a lawyer is that of the civil litigator. The civil attorney - at least historically - was the embodiment of justice, the one who resolved disputes by fighting with gusto within the bounds of the law.
Our complaint with civil practice mirrors that of many practitioners. It's become dog eat dog. The problem with dog eat dog is that at the end, even the winner is severely bruised and hurt and left wondering whether it was all worth it. At the HMA Law Firm, we still believe in the rules of the game. We believe that civil cases can, and can only - be won with a dose of civility. Fight, but respect the court and your opponent. Know the law and the rules of the game. Think creatively and out of the box. Don't be afraid to try a novel approach if you sincerely believe it to be in your client's best interest. Be prepared. Don't act out of reflex. Strategize. We have a varied and diverse civil practice at both the State and Federal levels. Representative issues include partnership dissolution, breach of contract, defamation, Title VII discrimination, Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) violations, personal injury partition sales, and various real estate disputes. We draw on our skills from other legal disciplines such as immigration law, in which we are used to fighting very hard with very little - and obtain real results. Our attorneys have training in various backgrounds, and when the need arises, we draw on that diversity for the benefit of our clients. |
